The descent of Jain Religion is very mysterious. The description of two ascetic (Rishabh and Arishtanemi)  of Jain Religion  is found in Rigveda.  The allusion of Rishabh in Vishnu and Bhagwat Puran as appearances of  Lord Narayana. Jains believe that the religious system of Jain Religion is the conclusion of the religious lecture of its 24 ascetics.

Pasharvanath was the 23rd  ascetic of Jain religion. He was the son of "Ashwasen" the king of Varanasi. The Parents and whole family  of Mahavir were the follower of Pasharvanth. Mahavir was the 24th and last  ascetic of Jain Religion.
